1. Information I collect
I may collect information that you choose to provide when you visit the website, submit a beta-reading request, schedule a call, make a payment, join an email list, send an email, or work with me. This may include:
- Your name, email address, and other contact information.
- Information about you, your manuscript, your publishing plans, your requested services, your deadline, and your feedback needs.
- Payment and transaction information. Payment card details are processed by the payment provider and are not stored by me.
- Messages, questionnaires, agreements, invoices, scheduling details, and other records connected to your request or service.
- Your manuscript and related materials when you become a client.
The website host and other service providers may also receive technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, and basic usage or security data.
2. How I use information
I use information to:
- Review and respond to requests.
- Decide whether a project is a good fit.
- Provide beta-reading services and follow-up support.
- Process payments, keep business records, prevent fraud, and comply with legal or tax obligations.
- Send service-related messages and, when you have subscribed or otherwise permitted it, marketing emails.
- Maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the website and business systems.
- Protect my rights, clients, confidential materials, and the integrity of the service.
3. Manuscripts and confidential materials
I treat manuscripts and related client materials as confidential. I personally read each manuscript. Manuscript text is not uploaded to artificial intelligence tools for reading, analysis, summarization, or evaluation.
Manuscripts are normally shared through Google Docs with commenter access. You keep ownership of your work. I use manuscript content only to provide the requested service, communicate with you, maintain necessary business records, or comply with law.
4. Service providers
I use third-party services to operate the business. Depending on how you interact with me, these may include GitHub Pages for website hosting; Google services for email, documents, and file storage; Kit for email marketing; Fillout or another form provider for forms; Stripe or another processor for payments; and Calendly or another scheduling provider.
These providers process information under their own privacy policies and terms. I share only the information reasonably needed for them to provide their services.
5. Email communications
Service emails are used to respond to requests and provide purchased services. Marketing emails are sent only when permitted. You may unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in the message. Unsubscribing from marketing does not prevent necessary service, payment, legal, or transaction-related messages.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
This site does not currently use advertising cookies or behavioral advertising. The site host, embedded forms, fonts, or other third-party features may process technical data or use their own technologies as needed to operate, secure, or measure their services.
7. How long information is kept
I keep information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to complete services, preserve appropriate business and tax records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and comply with law.
Manuscript files and working copies are deleted or removed from my active systems after the service is complete when they are no longer needed. Limited private notes or records may be retained when reasonably necessary for business, legal, or dispute-resolution purposes.
8. How information may be disclosed
I do not sell personal information. I may disclose information:
- To service providers that help operate the business.
- When you direct or authorize me to do so.
- To comply with law, court orders, valid legal requests, tax obligations, or professional advice.
- To protect rights, safety, confidential information, or the security of the website and business.
- As part of a business transfer, reorganization, or similar transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.
9. Your privacy choices
You may ask to access, correct, or delete personal information that I hold about you, subject to legal, contractual, security, and recordkeeping exceptions. You may also ask questions about how your information is used.
Send privacy requests to miagaray@miagaray.com. I may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
10. Information about children
The website and beta-reading services are intended for adults. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through this website. A parent or legal guardian who believes a child has provided information may contact me to request its removal.
11. International visitors
The business is based in Texas, United States. Information may be processed and stored in the United States and in other locations used by service providers. Visitors outside the United States may have additional rights under local law.
12. Security
I use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect personal information and confidential manuscripts. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
13. Changes to this policy
I may update this policy as the website, services, providers, or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top will show when the policy was last revised.
