Refund Policy

This policy explains when a beta-reading payment may be refunded, partially refunded, credited, or retained.

Effective date: August 4, 2026

Because beta reading reserves time and involves work that cannot be returned once performed, refund eligibility changes after the cancellation window and after reading begins.

1. Twenty-four-hour cancellation window

You may cancel within 24 hours after payment for a full refund, provided the service has not already been completed. Send the cancellation request to miagaray@miagaray.com.

2. Before reading begins

After the first 24 hours, a cancellation requested before reading begins may be approved for a full or partial refund depending on how much reserved time, intake review, preparation, administration, or other project work has already been completed.

If I decline or cancel the project before substantive reading begins for a reason that is not your fault, I will issue a full refund.

3. After reading begins

Once substantive reading has begun, refunds are considered case by case and are based on the reason for cancellation and the amount of work already completed.

  • If I cannot complete the project because of my own circumstances, I will provide a fair partial refund based on the unread or undelivered portion, or a full refund when little or no substantive work has been completed.
  • If you cancel, remove access, replace the manuscript, substantially change the scope, or otherwise prevent completion after work begins, payment for completed work and reserved time may be retained.
  • Completed and delivered services are nonrefundable merely because you disagree with the feedback, decide not to use it, revise the manuscript, change your publishing plans, or expected a different reader response.

4. Failure to provide manuscript access

You must provide usable manuscript access within 48 hours after payment unless another arrangement is confirmed in writing.

If access is delayed, the delivery date may be moved. If no usable access is provided within 7 days and you have not arranged an extension, the project may be treated as abandoned. The payment may then be nonrefundable because time was reserved and the project could not proceed.

When no reading has begun, I may choose to offer a reschedule or credit instead of treating the project as abandoned, but this is not guaranteed.

5. Manuscript or conduct problems

I may stop the service if the manuscript materially differs from what was disclosed; contains undisclosed extreme content; appears plagiarized or unlawful; or if communications become threatening, abusive, harassing, discriminatory, fraudulent, or unsafe.

If the project stops because of inaccurate disclosures, the author’s conduct, removal of access, or another author-caused issue, a refund is not guaranteed and may be reduced by completed work and reserved time.

6. Delays and rescheduling

A delayed manuscript, inaccessible file, unanswered question, or client-requested change may require a new deadline. A changed deadline caused by a client delay does not by itself create a right to a refund.

If I need a material extension because of my own circumstances, you may accept the new deadline or request cancellation. Any refund will reflect the amount of work already completed unless the circumstances justify a full refund.

7. Payment-processing fees

Refunds are returned through the original payment method when reasonably possible. Any payment-processing fee that the processor does not return may be deducted where permitted by law and disclosed before the refund is finalized.

8. Chargebacks

Please contact me first so I can review and attempt to resolve a billing concern. Filing a chargeback does not change the terms of the service or the documentation of work completed. I may provide the payment processor with the request, invoice, communications, access records, delivered work, and other relevant evidence.

9. How to request a cancellation or refund

Email miagaray@miagaray.com with:

  • Your name and the email used for payment.
  • The package or invoice involved.
  • The reason for the request.
  • Whether manuscript access has been provided and whether work has begun.

I will review the request and respond with the decision, calculation, and expected processing timeline.

10. Legal rights

This policy does not remove any nonwaivable rights you may have under applicable law.
